The exhaust system is checked for leaks, emissions and noise levels. That exhaust emission requirements are in part dependent on age of the car and its fuel type.
The state of seats, seatbelts, doors and mirrors are all checked. They must all work correctly and be in good shape. The boot, bonnet and all doors must open and shut correctly and must not be in a position to spring open when the auto-mobile is moving.
The condition of tyres, brakes, lights, the horn, the windows, wipers, windscreen washers, steering and suspension are all checked as part of a MOT inspection. Every one of these components must be in full working order and not be in danger of failing in the near future.
