UK Used Car Industry May Need To Deal With Another Two Years Of Recession

August 16th, 2010 |

There seems to be a lot of optimism among experts in many industries in the UK in regards to the economy. They feel that there is going to be some economic growth and that the worst is probably over. However this renewed sense of optimism is not shared by every industry, especially the used car industry which may still have to struggle on for another two years.

There are a few reasons why those in the used car industry are not feeling as optimistic as those in other industries. The ending of the UK scrappage scheme is viewed as having negative consequences with people less motivated to scrap their old bangers for something a little less antiquated. The scrappage scheme benefited more than just new car sellers. Effects were also felt by those selling used cars as well. There is a close relationship between the used can new car markets.

The car industry also blames the increasing costs of tax and VAT as discouraging people from the car market. This has led to people not buying new or second hand cars. It also means that they are not selling their old cars either and this has led to a shortage of used cars which increases the prices and turns even more people off buying.

Hopefully these predictions will not prove to be true as two years is quite a long time to wait for those in the used car market. Or this could have a negative effect on many other businesses. Despite the negative feeling among some in the industry the production of new cars is actually on the increase. In just March of this year, Honda alone produced over one hundred thousand new cars in it’s Swindon plant.

Whenever you happening to be looking for used cars, you are always better off trying to research your vehicles beforehand. Researching allows you to find the very best used cars for the category you are looking for. And when you finally finish your research, you could find yourself leaving the car delears with a splendid used jaguar or even a used land rover.
