How To Find a Used Car Dealer
December 24th, 2009 |
Once you have made the decision to purchase a used car, your first step is finding a dealership that suits your needs. Ideally, you will find a local dealership with a reputation for providing quality, low priced used vehicles and for a professional and honest demeanor. In order to find the used car dealer that will work best for you, there are several things to consider.
First, ask around. Friends and family are an excellent source of information about dealers. Ask them about their experiences with different dealerships, how honest they were, how their prices compared and how well their car ran once they purchased it. If you do not know anyone with first hand experience about local dealerships, consider using the Internet to network. Some of the social media sites like FaceBook are an excellent source of information.
Second, pick a dealership that provides history reports on their vehicles. This works in your favor for two reasons. First, you are ensured a vehicle that has a clean history and second, you know that the dealer takes the time to ensure the cars he represents are clean and well maintained.
Third, take the time to research prices on several vehicles on the lot. Check them against asking prices in the classifieds and at other dealerships as well as Kelly Blue Book. Prices should be fairly consistent across the board. What you are really looking for during this stage is the fees charged by the dealer, which should be reasonable.
Finally, rely on your gut. Car salesmen are, well, salesmen and they are trying to get you to buy, no matter what. If you feel that you are being pushed or rushed into making a decision, it is time to back away and find another dealer to work with.
